AAA/CAA finishes 2017 with 58,231,105 Members

AAA/CAA added 1,111,713 members in December and ended 2017 with 58,231,105 members. This number is higher than previously reported due to revisions provided during the year-end certification process. Membership has grown more than 1 million members in 14 of the past 15 months.

 
The rolling 12-month renewal rate increased to 87.3 percent from the prior year’s 87 percent while the total growth rate remained the same at 1.9 percent.

ORLANDO, Fla. (December 14, 2017) – ‘Tis the season to traditionally spend with family and friends and this year Americans are traveling in record numbers. AAA forecasts 107.3 million Americans will take to planes, trains, automobiles and other modes of transportation during the year-end holiday period from Saturday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Jan. 1. This will be the highest year-end travel volume on record and a 3.1 percent increase in travel volume compared with last year. 2017 marks the ninth consecutive year of rising year-end holiday travel.

ORLANDO, Fla. (November 16, 2017) – AAA projects 50.9 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more away from home this Thanksgiving, a 3.3 percent increase over last year. The 2017 holiday weekend will see the highest Thanksgiving travel volume since 2005 with 1.6 million more people taking to the nation’s roads, skies, rails and waterways compared with last year.

Summer Vacation Spend to Decrease This Year

Americans will spend almost 14% less on summer vacations this year, new research shows.

The decline in spend is being led by millennial travelers aged between 18 and 34 that are more trusting of sharing economy services such as Airbnb, Home Away, Uber and Lyft to book travel experiences, according to research by Allianz Global Assistance (AGA).

AGA's sixth annual Allianz Travel Insurance Vacation Confidence Index reports Americans will spend $85.5 billion on summer vacations in 2015, down 13.5% from $98.8 billion in 2014.

Almost 40% of millennials plan to spend less than $400 on summer travel; a higher proportion than all other age groups combined.

The survey shows that these value-seeking millennial travelers are more trusting of sharing economy services to book travel experiences. A majority (60%) of millennials trust the sharing economy, compared to only 37% of all other travelers.
